  • Music Site Branding and Design

Mr Myles Music is aimed at teachers and parents of young children who would like to download songs or buy songbooks to help their young’uns learn and have fun with music. Brightspark was approached to design a complete identity and to create a content managed e-commerce site.

After identifying and researching the target market, I began work on brainstorming and sketching ideas for the logo. This was a particularly enjoyable process as the client had asked for a fun, energetic and playful style.

Once I was happy that I had several strong, workable concepts, I set about developing them on the mac. I sent several of these to the client with detailed rationale behind each one.

I’m pleased to say that the client liked them all but was particularly drawn to the ‘man with guitar’ concept. However, he felt that there was something slightly feminine about the character and wanted to see a more masculine version. It occurred to me that the lack of eyebrows may be the cause of the female look. Once these were added, it immediately gave the figure a much more male appearance.

Having completed the logo, my attention turned to the overall branding and the structure of the e-commerce site. It had to appeal to adults and children alike while providing a mixture of professionalism and fun. A key part of the brief was to ensure that the client could easily update the content of the site themselves.

I completed a detailed site map and wireframes before developing the overall look of the home page.

The site is now live and already attracting a lot of attention. You can view it for yourself here. The response from the client has been fantastically positive:-

“People keep commenting on how excellent the site looks. You’ve thoroughly captured the mood of what Mr Myles Music is all about and created a fun environment for the user. Great work!”
