Photography Brochure Design
Alex Nelson Photography are a husband and wife team who specialise in shooting weddings and lifestyle portraiture. They briefed Brightspark to create a brand new brochure to work as the cornerstone to their advertising and marketing campaign.
They were looking for a design that would deliver something edgy-ish and avoid the more traditional wedding brochure route. It needed to work with and develop their red and black brand colours.
Initially, I delivered two inside spreads, together with a rationale outlining my thought process behind the design.
The client felt that this first draft was not what they had in mind and explained that they would prefer a version that contained multiple design elements and that each page needed to be completely unique. Importantly, the brochure had to be more fun and each page should contain a combination of text and images.
Having followed my usual design process before beginning work, I felt that I had a good handle on what the client required. However, the feedback revealed that on this (extremely rare!) occasion, the first draft had clearly missed the mark.
I decided to begin again from scratch rather than adapting the initial design. This time I created the full brochure as I felt it would be difficult to get a sense of the eclectic feel from just a few spreads. A few examples are below:-
The feedback for this new concept was extremely positive and they were really pleased with the result. However, they had spent some time reflecting on the original draft and shown it to an Art Director friend who loved it. This meant they were inclined to revert to the first version and were interested to see how that would develop.
I created another inside spread in this style together with a front and back cover which the client was happy to approve. From here, I designed the remainder of the brochure, keeping each page consistent and maintaining the more elegant style.
“Great job David! The piece looks great! We can see the amount of time and energy you invested in it and truly do appreciate it. Thank you again for your hard work and effort.”
